Choose Your Own – Six

Beurrot Pinot Gris

Beurrot comprises two Pinot Gris parcels: the tiny original 0.24 hectare section annexing the Meres block, and the all-Pinot Gris block which, at 2.74 hectares, provides the majority of the fruit. The large block is planted to a density of 5,600 vines per hectare.

The fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed directly into all old French oak oak, where fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts. Following fermentation, the wine was ages on lees (without battonage) for ten months. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration

Clonale Chardonnay

The 2019 Kooyong Clonale is a blend of Chardonnay from our Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards. The fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques (of which 7% were new), where fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts. Following fermentation, the wine was aged on lees (without battonage) for nine months. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Massale Pinot Noir

The 2019 Kooyong Massale is a blend of Pinot Noir from our Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards. The fruit was fermented in open vats. Fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts and lasted 15 to 18 days. The wine underwent indigenous malolactic fermentation. The maturation period was 10 months in French oak barriques and puncheons (5% new) and large format foudre. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Estate Chardonnay

Pinot Noir Shiraz

Our ‘pilot’ wines bring to bottle the experimentation and play of the winemaking team.

Experimentation is an essential element of our winemaking philosophy. It sees us developing and trialling various winemaking techniques, reassessing and expanding on traditional methods, highlighting specific parcels of fruit and exploring diverse wine styles. We are excited to share some of the results with our ‘pilot’ wines.

Sauvignon

The Port Phillip Estate Sauvignon is a single site wine produced from 0.65 hectares of estate vineyard. The fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermented without yeast inoculation in old French oak barriques. Once dry, the wine was left sur lie for several months prior to bottling. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Salasso Rosé

The fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts in old French oak barriques. Once dry, the wine was left on lees for several months prior to bottling. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

 

Balnarring Chardonnay

Red Hill Pinot Noir

The Port Phillip Estate ‘Red Hill’ vineyard is located on the Mornington Peninsula at Red Hill, on Eocene volcanic soils. Our wines are made from domain grown, handpicked grapes and aim to manifest terroir: the integration of our geology and soils with the macroclimate of our region, the mesoclimates of the various sites within our vineyard and the weather of the annual grape growing season. Tuerong Shiraz

The 2019 Port Phillip Estate Shiraz is a single vineyard wine produced from 0.53 hectares of estate vineyard.

The fruit, including a small amount of whole bunches, was fermented spontaneously with ambient yeasts in an open top concrete fermenter for 16 days. Malolactic fermentation was indigenous, and the maturation period was 13 months in old French oak barriques. This wine was bottled without fining.

Morillon Chardonnay

The Port Phillip Estate Red Hill vineyard is located on the Mornington Peninsula on Eocene volcanic soils. Quartier Pinot Gris

Quartier means neighbourhood in French and the Quartier varietals are a celebration of diverse terroirs on the Mornington Peninsula. The fruit for this wine is sourced from a neighbouring vineyard in Balnarring.

The fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts in entirely old French oak barriques. Once dry, the wine was left sur lie for several months prior to bottling. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Quartier Chardonnay

Quartier means neighbourhood in French and the Quartier varieties are a celebration of diverse terroirs on the Mornington Peninsula. The fruit for this wine is sourced from neighbouring vineyards in Balnarring and Dromana.

The fruit was whole-bunch pressed directly into a combination of French oak barriques (8% new) and stainless-steel tank, where fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts. After fermentation, the wine was aged on lees (without battonage) for eight months. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Quartier Pinot Noir

Quartier means neighbourhood in French and the Quartier varietals are a celebration of diverse terroirs on the Mornington Peninsula. The fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards in Tuerong and Balnarring.

The fruit was fermented in open vats. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with ambient yeasts and lasted 16 to 18 days. The wine underwent indigenous malolactic fermentation. The maturation period was ten months in French oak barriques, puncheons (7% new), and large format foudre. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.
