January 2025
The bouquet opens with aromas of grapefruit, fresh pear, and white nectarine skin. These fresh fruit notes are complemented by almond meal, nougat, and a hint of fresh cream, bringing added depth. Subtle accents of gunflint and delicate oak spice linger in the background. The palate is vibrant and textured, featuring a blend of grapefruit and lime citrus flavours that transition into juicy white stone fruits. Lees contact contributes a creamy texture while nuanced phenolic grip enhances complexity. A bright, focused acidity provides structure and balance, leading to a crisp and refreshing finish.

Takes a dip into the very heart and soul of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay at an approachable price. Summery stone fruits and citrus aplenty, enhanced texturally with time in oak and trimmed in bright acidity, Clonale ticks all the boxes. A blend of Chardonnay from Kooyong’s Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards, fermented in French oak (12% new) and bottled without fining, it is immediately appealing with its touch of lime peel, Meyer lemon and spice set among a riot of white peach and nectarine. Super clean and crisp as snow, it’s easy to see why Chardonnay is having yet another moment with drinkers.

Peach, melon, mint, vanilla, a sour yoghourt thing. Nutty, tangy, lemon and grapefruit, a bit spicy, some chalky grip, with a lively and sappy finish of excellent length. Lovely wine. Plenty of energy and drinks so well. Touch and go for 94 points.

The Vineyard
The 2019 Kooyong Clonale is a blend of Chardonnay from our Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards. The fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques (of which 7% were new), where fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts. Following fermentation, the wine was aged on lees (without battonage) for nine months. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.
